Celebrating wins can feel a bit weird when you start. Maybe it's something we stopped doing as we grew up, or perhaps it's a habit we never formed. But celebrating our wins, however small or however large, is a fantastic way of keeping your motivation going. Let's be honest, when we're feeling a bit low or overwhelmed, it's easy to feel fed up.
The easiest thing to do to celebrate is to use your body. This links your celebration to your senses, making it more memorable and impactful. Whatever your win is—a tech win, making an important call, creating a program, or even just deciding to drink enough water today—celebration is the key to internalizing the benefit of that achievement.
How do we do this?
High Five! Give yourself one, or share it with someone else.
Pat Yourself on the Back: A simple physical acknowledgment.
Do a Happy Dance: Get your body moving!
Share the Success: Tell somebody what you've achieved. Celebrate in communities.
All of these things start a movement that tells your brain, "Actually, I can achieve, and I can be happy about it." The biggest thing is to do it with a smile on your face. We don't want to be glum when we're winning! You'll find that once you get this under your belt, you'll start doing it with others, too. This is something we do regularly at ICA, whether it's a 'home high five' or a movement that makes you feel good. It's free, so give it a go and let us know how you get on!
